About Austin

Austin Chow, Alaska Backcountry

"When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.” - J. Lennon.

Born and raised in Vail, Colorado, Austin Chow developed a love for the outdoors at a very young age. Surrounded by mountains and driven by a native craving for adventure, the wilderness has always been his playground and his home. Inspired by his early experiences, Austin pursued his passion for photography at Princeton University where he trained in film photography and learned the nuances of the dark room. Ever since, the camera has become his constant companion.

Austin has now seen the sun rise on six continents, explored fifty-five different countries and road tripped through forty-two of fifty states in the US. Motivated by sharing sights unseen, Austin captures the beauty of adventure travel and cultural immersion. A natural mountain athlete, he has hiked the Torres del Paine, trekked the Tongariro Crossing, camped in the Amazon, skied the Andes backcountry, climbed the Tetons, run the Boston Marathon, free dived the waters of Fiji, eaten his way through Asia and raced the bulls in Pamplona only to want more.

Why? His thrill seeking curiosity is fueled by an endless thirst to capture and share the world’s beauty with family, friends and strangers around the globe in hopes of inspiring them to follow their own dreams. The world is a vast and mysterious place filled with wonder waiting around every corner. So get out there, and don’t forget your camera.
